E-mail Print PDF
The hibiscus (Hibiscus Rosa) is chosen as the national flower on 28th July, 1960 by the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. The flower is chosen based on the distinctiveness of the red flower which symbolized the political and economic strength and stability as well as courage and bravery in times of adversity.

This flower, also known as the “Queen of Tropical Flowers” is part of the Malyacea family which consists of 300 species of plants.

The variety of hibiscus in terms of color, shape and size has been adapted as symbol of the various races, religions and cultures in this beloved nation.
