Dol Said @ Abdul Said was born in year 1773, from the Semelenggang tribe and replaced Chief Anjak as the Chief of Naning in the year 1799 at the age of 26. Dol Said, 9th ruler of Naning, protested against the implementation of taxes in his district by the Brtitish.
He had forcibly protested against the placement of British army in Naning by showing his military prowess in two war campaigns. The Naning Battles which took place in 1831-1832 had made Dol Said a brave hero in the eyes of many and carved his name forevermore in the history of Malacca.
Chief Dol Said had garnered the support of over 1,000 brave Malay men to fight against the British in the first Naning Battle which started on the 6th August 1831 and ended on the 24th August 1831, roughly about 18 days of fighting. In that battle, Chief Dol Said had emerged victorious due to the unity amongst his fighters as well as support lent by the Malay people from other districts.
Dol Said eventually had to retreat to Pasir Besar after suffering a defeat in the second Naning Battle on February 1832. In 4 months’ time after that, Naning finally fell into the hands of British on 15th June, 1832. Naning was then placed under the rulings of Southern Strait States in 27th October, 1832.
