Tok Gajah is father to the Malay warrior of Pahang, Mat Kilau. In year 1891 to 1985, there had been several uprising in Pahang in retaliation to the ruler of the state. He had fought against British colonialism together with Datuk Bahaman, Mat Kilau and Datuk Maharaja Lela. Tok Gajah had resolved to rid Pahang of the British due to their trickery in trying to take over the ruling of Pahang. He had a strong fighting spirit, an indomitable faith and will that would take him to face the fully armed British soldier bare-handed.
Together with Wan Lingga, he was ordered by Bendahara Wan Ahmad to attack Maharaja Perba and Orang Kaya Setia Lela. This is due to a conflict and a misunderstanding between Maharaja Perba and the Bendahara. He was also once dispatched to Singapore to obtain the assistance of a lawyer as an advisor to Sultan Ahmad. He is also appointed as the general of a fighting force under Sultan Ahmad in the struggle against British colonial forces.
The third generation who were land owners in certain strategic places in is known as Orang Besar Raja. These people are much loved by the royalties despite not being of royal blood, and are often raised in class or ranks according to their military prowess.
Tok Gajah and Tuan Sheikh Kechil are two heroes that were chosen based on those criterias. Tok Gajah had a huge influence and was much respected and feared by the British. He is the main advisor of the Sultan in all aspects regarding Hulu Pahang, which covered every area, from the mouth of the river from Pulau Tawar.
