Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) announced its formation during the presentation of the Ninth Malaysia Plan by the Prime Minister of Malaysia on March 31, 2006. With the approval from the Cabinet on 14 June 2006, UMK was gazetted as the nineteenth Public University established by the Malaysian government.

Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn
Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) is the 15th public higher education institution in Malaysia. It was established on the 27th of September 2000 and it specializes in the field of engineering, engineering technology, technology management and technical and vocational education.
KUiTTHO began as the Polytechnic Staff Training Centre (PLSP) in 1993. In 1996, the institution’s status was upgraded to Institut Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn (ITTHO) under the management of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and the Education Ministry.
Universiti Malaysia Perlis
Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), was previously known as Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan Utara Malaysia. The UniMAP permanent campus is in Pauh, Perlis which covers an area of 1050 acres, and in Sungai Chuchuh near Padang Besar, covering an area of 300 acres. The teaching implementation is lab-intensive to create competent engineers who are able to apply theory and concepts. The UniMAP academic program is divided into two components: 60% learning in the form of industry exposure and practical work and 40% in the form of formal lectures. The curriculum offered is designed to be at par with any certified engineering programs.
Universiti Malaysia Pahang
Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) was previously known as Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan & Teknologi Malaysia or KUKTEM. This university has the first wireless connection in the Asia Pacific region.
Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka
Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) is public institute of higher education as well as the first technical university in Malaysia. This university was rebranded when the government approved the proposal to upgrade the Kolej Universiti Teknikal Kebangsaan Malaysia (KUTKM) to university status. UteM is a university that focuses on two key areas, i.e. engineering and information technology. Students would receive practical hands-on experience in order to provide them with the competitive edge when they graduate into the workforce.
Universiti Malaysia Terengganu
Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) was previously known as Kolej Universiti Sains dan Teknologi Malaysia (KUSTEM). Kolej Universiti Sains dan Teknologi Malaysia (KUSTEM) was established with a Fisheries and Naval Sciences Centre in 1979, which provided training facilities for its fisheries and naval sciences program as well as provide research facilities for its lecturers.
On the 1st of February 2007, KUSTEM was officially upgraded to university status, and a name change took place, to Universiti Malaysia Terengganu or UMT, the country’s 14th public institute of higher education.
Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia
Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) is the first Islamic university in Malaysia to be established by the Malaysian government in the beginning of the 21st century. It is the 12th public higher education institution in the country and is registered with the name Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (it was previously known as the Malaysian Islamic University College). Among the objectives of its establishment is to cultivate Islamic education as well as to bring it into the mainstream of national education and to emphasise the use of information technology in its teaching and research systems. The use of the Arabic language and English as well as the national language also receives priority.
Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia
The history of the National Defense University Malaysia (UPNM) began with the establishment of the Malaysian Military Academy (ATMA) on the 1st of June 1995 as an organization entrusted with implementing an education program at the degree level as well as military training to cadet officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM). The role of ATMA was expanded when it became UPNM, which was made official on the 10th of November 2006.
Even though UPNM will only begin to accept its first group of students in the 2007/2008 session, it already 11 years of experience conducting degree level academic programs from 1995 to 2006 through a joint program between the Ministry of Defense and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
The university has produced as many as 1017 graduates in three areas covering engineering, science and management. Aside from earning a professional qualification, graduates were also appointed as ATM officers and are in service in various units in the Armed Forces, Royal Malaysian Navy and Royal Malaysian Air Force.
Universiti Darul Iman Malaysia
ImThe dream of establishing a full-fledged university in Terengganu and on the East Coast was realized when Universiti Darul Iman Malaysia (UDM) was established on the 1st of January 2006.
To date, UDM has two fully operational campuses in Terengganu, at the Kota Campus and KUSZA Campus. Another campus in Besut is expected to be operational in a few years.
UDM KUSZA Campus will focus on education and research in Islamic knowledge, which has been harmonized with conventional bodies of knowledge. UDM Kuala Terengganu Campus offers programs in Integrated Health, while UDM Besut Campus will be developed to have a niche in agricultural sciences such as agricultural biotechnology and other related courses. Courses offered on all three campuses will not overlap as each has its own fields of specialization.
It is hoped that UDM will produce leaders in various fields by applying knowledge, encouraging openness, instilling a sense of responsibility and appreciation of diversity for the good of mankind.
UDM hopes to produce and create leaders whose talent and thinking are shaped by knowledge, culture, exceptional character and an international mindset.
Universiti Teknologi MARA
UiTM is a leading higher education institute in Malaysia which has undergone many changes since its establishment in 1956. This university has grown to 3 main campuses, 12 branch campuses, 8 city campuses, 19 joint colleges and one intelligent campus in planning. In its early days, UiTM was known as ITM and was entrusted with the responsibility of providing students with preparatory academic knowledge and skills before continuing their education abroad in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Japan, Korea and the Middle East.
Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris
Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) is the first education university in Malaysia. UPSI was announced as a university on the 1st of May, 1997 through the Government Gazette P.U. (A) 132 & 133, dated 24th February 1997, under two orders: the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris Order (institution) 1997 and the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris Order (campus) 1997. UPSI was previously known as the Sultan Idris Teaching Institute. The UPSI campus is located in Tanjung Malim, Perak. UPSI’s slogan is “Knowledge lights the wise” whereas its official song is “Mother lights the wise”.
Universiti Malaya
UUniversiti Malaya (UM) is the oldest university in Malaysia and is located on the fringe of Kuala Lumpur. It was established in April 1949 in Singapore with the merging of the King Edward VII Medical College and Raffles College.
In line with its development, a branch campus was opened in Kuala Lumpur in 1959 and in 1960, both the Malaysian and Singaporean governments agreed to changes both campuses into national universities. Legislation was passed in 1961 and on the 1st of January 1962, Universiti Malaya was established.
Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia
Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia is well-known within the Muslim world. This is due to the fact that the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) was established to revive Islamic learning and to expand the opportunities for Muslims in higher education. It is then not surprising that the initial cost for the establishment of the university was sponsored by the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and several Islamic countries. IIUM’s 700-acre main campus is located in Gombak, Selangor. IIUM has two branch campuses in Kuantan and Kuala Lumpur. The IIUM Matriculation Centre is located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Universiti Utara Malaysia
Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) is the sixth national university in Malaysia. It was officially established on the 16th of February 1984 under the Universiti Utara Malaysia (institution) Order. The UUM slogan is “Knowledge, Kindness, Dedication”.
Today, UUM has 13 faculties, two institutes and 15 residential colleges. One of the unique features of this universities is that many of its facilities are open to the general public.
Universiti Sains Malaysia
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) was established in Pulau Pinang in 1969, and is considered to be one of the oldest public higher education institutes in Malaysia.
Today, USM has two branch campuses: the engineering campus in Seri Ampangan, South Seberai Prai in Pulau Pinang, and the health campus in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan.
